Agriculture and forestry practices are combined in the concept of agroforestry. The approach increases crop yields, climate change resilience and diversifies income for land users, while simultaneously improving the state of the ecosystem, soil conditions and land value.

 

Agroforestry practices further depend strongly on the involvement of local communities, and their ability to assume insight on what causes the destruction of their immediate environment. For experts and development projects, it is critical to build a better understanding of the combined ecological, social and economic prerequisites for restored ecosystems through large-scale greening projects. The successful deployment of new technologies hinges on careful tailoring of planting and landscape development to the local context and finding innovative ways of inspiring socially and economically viable development models.
