Greening

Water scarcity, desertification and the destruction of productive soils present serious challenges to humanity. Causes for these trends lie in deforestation and unsustainable land use. Fertile land is a vital resource for a world facing exponential population growth. Food security and water management are becoming urgent issues in need of immediate action to prevent further degradation, which results in more expensive recoveries in the future. Acting on this agenda is critical for social and regional development in large parts of the world, including in the Middle East and the Sultanate of Oman. The reward for success, meanwhile, has increased sharply. The last century of secular reductions in food and land price values have been more than outweighed by the last decade's reversal, under the pressure of climate change and far-reaching disruptions to land use and food supply chains. This means the economic rewards to innovative recovery of land use are increasing rapidly and now hold the key to restoring viability job creation and prosperity.

Working closely with an international network of professional and dedicated organisations and individuals, Qualies is championing a holistic approach to apply simple yet viable technologies for radical improvement of environmental conditions as a basis for sustainable land use development.

Qualies’ Ecological Restoration approach is a sustainable, viable solution, capable of:

  • making eroded, unproductive land fertile and therefore valuable again
  • recharging aquifers
  • reversing desertification trends
  • creating habitat for native fauna and flora
  • mitigating climate change impacts.

Turning desertification trends around to create fertile land is not only environmentally and socially important, but also economically beneficial, as life and water functions resume and the land regains commercial value. When the land can once again support crops, new businesses and jobs are created to the benefit of local communities.
